Q. What licensing programs does LANDesk offer academic institutions?

A. LANDesk offers educational institutions two options for licensing software solutions:

• The LANDesk® Academic License Program provides educational customers with a license to use eligible LANDesk® products throughout the entire school or district for the annual contract term. Education customers that choose the LANDesk Academic License Program don’t pay an upfront license fee for a perpetual license for LANDesk products. Rather they pay for usage of the licenses on an annual basis. At the end of the contract term, customers have the option to end the contract and remove the software, enter into another term agreement or convert to a perpetual license. This helps lower the institution’s annual software licensing costs and simplifies budgeting and administration.
• Traditional licenses provide a perpetual right for the institution to use the software. Customers purchase licenses upfront and can use them forever. LANDesk offers educational institutions substantial discounts on the cost of a perpetual licenses.

Q. What are the benefits of the perpetual license program?

A. Customers that purchase perpetual licenses own a license to that version of software. They can use the license forever or upgrade it as desired. This option is ideal for educational customers looking to license software for a single department.

Q. What are the benefits of the LANDesk® Academic License Program?

A. In addition to cost-effective licensing that works within the typically tight annual budgets of educational customers, the LANDesk® Academic License Program simplifies budgeting for K–12 and institution of higher education. Education customers can easily calculate their annual fee based on total full-time equivalents (FTE) or node count. License administration is also simplified. The LANDesk Academic License Program authorizes administrators to count and pay only once a year even as student counts fluctuate. Once the annual fee is paid, the institution’s licensing for LANDesk® products is complete for the entire year. This option is preferred for educational customers wanting to provide easier manageability for their entire school or district.

Q. Which academic institutions qualify for the LANDesk® Academic License Program?

A. Academic institutions qualified for the LANDesk® Academic License Program are limited to public and private K–12 schools, higher education institutions, accredited vocational schools, libraries and certain teaching hospitals.

Non-teaching hospitals, healthcare systems and research laboratories cannot participate.

Q. What other licensing options are available through LANDesk?

A. In addition to the K–12 and higher education options provided through the LANDesk® Academic License Program, several other license options are available to educational institutions as part of LANDesk’s traditional volume licensing programs. A. Typically, LANDesk products are licensed through LANDesk solution providers. These providers can give academic institutions pricing and program details.

Q. Is there a minimum purchase requirement through the LANDesk® Academic License Program?

A. There is no minimum purchase requirement.

Q. What LANDesk® products are available through the LANDesk® Academic License Program?

A. LANDesk products available with a renewable annual license are LANDesk® Management Suite, LANDesk® Management Suite with LANDesk® Patch Manager subscription service, LANDesk® Security Suite, LANDesk® Server Manager, LANDesk® Inventory Manager and LANDesk® Handheld Manager.

Q. Do products licensed under the LANDesk® Academic License Program use the same part numbers as products with regularly purchased licenses?

A. No. Unique part numbers (SKUs) exist for products purchased under the LANDesk® Academic License Program. Please contact a LANDesk representative or a LANDesk solution provider for SKU information.

Q. Can renewable annual licenses be converted to perpetual licenses?

A. Yes. If you wish to convert a renewable annual license to a perpetual license, LANDesk will apply 25% of the total annual fees paid for a renewable annual license to the cost of a perpetual license.

Q. Are there limitations on the use of academic licenses in my school?

A. Software licensed through the LANDesk® Academic License Program is authorized for use only in qualifying educational institutions. Qualified academic customers may install software only on school-owned or leased computers.

Q. Are licenses obtained through the LANDesk® Academic License Program restricted to use by a single department or division?

A. No. The LANDesk Academic License Program authorizes use of the software throughout the entire school or district. If departmental licenses are required, LANDesk offers qualified educational institutions special discounted pricing for perpetual licenses.

Q. Does the LANDesk® Academic License Program include upgrade protection?

A. No. Licenses obtained through the LANDesk® Academic License Program are for current product versions only. Customers that want to upgrade during the contract period may purchase upgrade protection separately for a nominal charge. At the end of the contract term, renewal of the contract provides the right to use/upgrade to the most current versions.

Q. Are services such as technical support, education and others subject to similar discounts through the LANDesk® Academic License Program?

A. No. The LANDesk® Academic License Program applies to eligible software products only. Academic institutions can purchase other LANDesk solutions at substantial discounts through their LANDesk solution provider.

Q. What is the term of the LANDesk® Academic License Program agreement?

A. The term of the agreement is three years, and license fees must be paid annually. This simplifies budgeting and administration for educational institutions by providing a mechanism to count FTE or nodes only once annually, even if the student population fluctuates.

Q. What options are available when the LANDesk® Academic License Program contract is up for renewal?

A. At the end of the contract term, customers have the option to end the contract and uninstall the software, enter into a new three-year agreement or convert to a perpetual license.
